Synod’s Authentic Diversity & Justice Team Hosting Book Discussion and Author Visit
Want to read a book this summer about the church and the Black women of the civil rights movement written by a local author? The Authentic Diversity and Justice team of our synod is hosting a book study and discussion with professor and author Dr. AnneMarie Mingo about her book Have You Got Good Religion? Black Women’s Faith, Courage, and Moral Leadership in the Civil Rights Movement.
This insightful book explores the pivotal role that Black women played in the civil rights movement, focusing on their faith, courage, and moral leadership. It provides an in-depth look at the intersection of religion and social justice through the lives and experiences of these remarkable women.
We invite you to join us for a Zoom check-in discussion with other readers on August 15 at 7 pm. This will be an excellent opportunity to share your thoughts, reflect on the book’s themes, and connect with others who are passionate about this important subject. Following this, we are excited to host an in-person event with Dr. AnneMarie Mingo herself on September 12 at 7 pm at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with the author, ask questions, and gain deeper insights into her research and the stories she tells.
If you’re interested, please talk to Pastor Ryan for more information. The book can be purchased here: Bookshop. Don’t miss out on this chance to delve into a powerful narrative about faith and leadership in the fight for civil rights, and to discuss it with a community dedicated to justice and diversity.
