Blessing of the Backpacks

A new school year brings excitement, fresh opportunities, and sometimes a little nervousness too. As students of all ages prepare to step into classrooms, begin new routines, and take on new challenges, we want to surround them with prayer, encouragement, and God’s blessing. On Sunday, September 21, during our regular worship service, we invite all students to bring their backpacks with them to church for our annual Blessing of the Backpacks.

This meaningful tradition is a reminder that God goes with our children and youth each day as they learn, grow, and build relationships. Each backpack becomes a symbol of the work and experiences of the coming year, and we want students to know that their church family is walking alongside them in prayer and support.

In addition to blessing students, we will also take time to lift up and pray for teachers, administrators, school staff, and all who work with children and youth. These dedicated individuals play an essential role in shaping lives, offering guidance, and creating safe and welcoming spaces for learning. We want them to know they, too, are deeply valued and carried in God’s care.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this special service—whether you are starting preschool, heading to graduate school, teaching in a classroom, driving a bus, preparing school meals, or mentoring young people in the community. Together, we will ask God’s blessing for a year filled with wisdom, growth, and joy.

Mark your calendars and invite a friend or neighbor to join us for this uplifting service of prayer and blessing. Let’s begin the school year in faith and community, trusting that God’s love goes with us every step of the way.
