Coming Together on RIC Sunday: A Tapestry of Hopes and Prayers
Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Sunday is when communities celebrate their commitment to being welcoming and affirming places for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. It’s a time for reflection, for celebration, and for looking forward with hope. At Perry Highway Lutheran Church, RIC Sunday symbolizes our dedication to inclusivity, understanding, and continuous dialogue about what it means to be a community that truly embraces all.
As we approach the observance of RIC Sunday on February 11th, our congregation has been engaging in a profound and collaborative expression of our collective vision for the future. Over the past weeks, we have been writing our hopes, dreams, and prayers onto strips of cloth. These personal offerings have been a way for us to weave together the many threads of our diverse community into a shared narrative of faith and expectation.
On RIC Sunday, we will bind these inscribed strips together to form the shape of a waterfall, a powerful and moving representation of the verse from the book of Amos: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” This cascade of cloth and color, rich with our congregation’s deepest aspirations, will stand as a testament to our journey toward justice and righteousness.
We warmly invite everyone to join us in this unity and shared purpose celebration. Come and see the beautiful waterfall we have created together, symbolizing the unstoppable force of justice and the continuous flow of righteousness that we strive to embody. Let this RIC Sunday be a beacon of our collective commitment to a future where love and justice are ever-present.
