Our Pastor

Pastor Ryan Pusch grew up in a loving West Bend, Wisconsin family. He has two sisters and one half-brother; his folks are retired teachers. The family was very involved at Trinity Lutheran Church, the only RIC congregation in Washington County, Wisconsin. He learned at a young age the importance of inclusion and the pain and hurt of hatred and exclusion.

He attended the University of Minnesota for a Bachelor of Arts in cultural studies and comparative literature. He worked at Americorps Vista for a year. Then he spent several years exploring and working in different places, including as a tutor in public schools and for individuals, as a personal care assistant for children with autism, as a student community liaison for the University of Minnesota, and as an after-school care provider at a German immersion school.

  • Embracing Inclusivity: Pastor Ryan Pusch, raised in an RIC congregation, understands the importance of inclusion and the impact of exclusion.

  • Diverse Background: With experience in cultural studies, Americorps Vista, tutoring, and various community roles, Pastor Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding to his ministry.

  • Multifaceted Interests: An avid dancer, reader, and outdoor enthusiast, Pastor Ryan enjoys engaging with the community through various activities and shared passions.

His call to ministry came through the unexpected revelation of practicing Buddhist meditation, which led him to enroll in Luther Seminary, where he received a Master of Divinity in 2017. His first call was to Leechburg and Vandergrift, PA, where he served two churches for five years.

He married Pastor Jocelyn Johnston in September of 2021, and they have a black lab named Bucky. He is a dancer and co-teaches a practice called contact improvisation with friends. He loves reading, writing, biking, cooking, frisbee, tennis, music, hiking, and camping, and he is very excited to be at Perry Highway!

Reconciling Works

We recommit to being a Reconciling in Christ Congregation. As followers of Christ, who calls us to reconciliation and wholeness, we, the Perry Highway Lutheran Church members, welcome all seeking God’s grace, love, and comfort. Believing that all are one in Christ Jesus and being aware that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual persons have been excluded from membership in some congregations, we welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, as well as those who may have been excluded because of other human distinctions, such as race, disability, addictions, physical or mental health, imprisonment or economic status. We thus reaffirm that this welcome includes all people. We pledge to ourselves and all others that we will strive to live as a reconciling people, in our life together and our outreach to the world.
