SUMMARY:Prayer Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Prayer Vigil\nJoin members of PHLC as we stand with our wider community at a weekly prayer vigil in support of immigrants who have been seized and are being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This vigil takes place every Friday\, beginning at 8:30 AM\, at the ICE Field Office\, 3000 Sydney Street\, Pittsburgh. It is grounded in faith\, compassion\, and a shared commitment to justice. \nEach gathering includes hymns\, spoken prayers\, and intentional moments of silence. Together\, we create sacred space in the midst of public life—bearing witness to the dignity of our immigrant neighbors and naming the harm caused by unjust systems. This is a peaceful\, quiet protest\, meant to remind the public that the suffering of our neighbors is not abstract or distant\, but real and happening in our community. \nParticipants are welcome to carry signs that reflect messages of hope\, solidarity\, and justice. In keeping with the spirit of the vigil\, there will be no shouting\, chanting\, or bullhorns. Those attending will stand on the public sidewalk only and may not enter the roadway or the property of the ICE facility. These guidelines help ensure the safety of all involved and preserve the prayerful nature of the gathering. \nThis vigil is an act of faithful presence—showing up\, week after week\, to say that immigrants are beloved\, that families matter\, and that silence in the face of injustice is not an option. Whether you come every Friday or are able to join us once\, your presence matters. \nThe vigil is hosted by Sisters of St. Joseph\, Pax Christi\, and Casa San José. All are welcome to come\, pray\, and stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors.

SUMMARY:Film Club
DESCRIPTION:Film Club\nJoin us on May 30\, 2026\, at 7:00 pm for our next Film Club gathering as we screen Romero. \nThis film is an acclaimed international drama that tells the story of a devoted father navigating difficult moral choices as he tries to secure a better future for his daughter. Set in contemporary Romania\, the film explores themes of family\, integrity\, sacrifice\, and the pressures people face when life doesn’t go according to plan. Thought-provoking and emotionally rich\, Romeo invites viewers to reflect on ethics\, relationships\, and the challenges of holding onto hope in complicated circumstances. \nFilm Club gatherings are a relaxed and welcoming space for conversation and connection. Whether you are a film enthusiast\, a history buff\, or simply curious about unique expressions of faith\, this event offers an opportunity to engage thoughtfully with others. \nFeel free to bring a snack or drink to enjoy during the film. All are welcome—bring a friend or neighbor along! We look forward to an afternoon of meaningful storytelling\, learning\, and conversation together.

SUMMARY:Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 9:30 am on Sundays — We Make a Place for Everyone!\nCelebrating Our God beyond Understanding\nThe festival of the Holy Trinity celebrates the wonder of relationship with God while leaving us distinctly dissatisfied with our limited understanding of what God is. While guarding against the idolatry of language\, we survey our scripture\, doctrine\, creeds\, and symbols of our heritage. Equally important\, we pray for God to inspire fresh\, innovative ideas of God in the present moment. \nToday’s gospel contains one of the few biblical references to the trinitarian formula. As the eleven are commissioned to make disciples\, baptize\, and teach\, we are invited to consider our calling to influence the world with the good news of God’s love. The text from Second Corinthians also includes a kind of naming of the Holy Trinity in an affectionate sign-off of a personal letter. With the psalm praising God the creator and sustainer of all creation\, Genesis 1 relates the first of two creation stories\, this one an ancient liturgy celebrating God as a divine plural. \nThat God that is beyond our understanding may be both troubling and comforting. The temptation may be to attempt to apprehend the idea of God with our intellect\, offering the worshiping assembly a showcase of various models for God. The result is usually disappointing and feeds our bias toward intellectualism. Another possibility is to celebrate God’s presence in all its glory and colorful wonder and our belonging to this wonder-full God. \n~From Sundays & Seasons

SUMMARY:Congregational Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Congregational Meeting\nMembers of Perry Highway Lutheran Church are invited to remain after the worship service on Sunday\, May 31\, for a short but important congregational meeting. As a church community\, gatherings like these provide an opportunity for us to come together\, share updates\, discuss important matters\, and participate in the life and future direction of our congregation. \nThe meeting is expected to be brief\, but your presence and participation are greatly valued. Congregational meetings are an important part of staying informed and engaged in the ministries and decisions that impact our church family. We encourage all members to attend and be part of the conversation as we continue working together in faith and community. \nAdditional information and materials related to the meeting will be distributed in advance for your review and preparation. Providing these details ahead of time will allow members the opportunity to read through the information carefully\, consider any questions they may have\, and come prepared for discussion and voting if needed. Please watch your email\, church announcements\, and other church communications as the date approaches for updates and supporting documents. \nAt PHLC\, we value openness\, collaboration\, and shared leadership. Meetings like this help ensure that all voices can be heard and that our congregation remains informed and connected as we make decisions together. \nWe appreciate your willingness to take part in the ongoing life and ministry of our church. Your attendance\, support\, and engagement help strengthen our congregation and our mission in the community. \nPlease plan to stay after worship on Sunday\, May 31\, for this important congregational meeting. Thank you for your continued commitment to Perry Highway Lutheran Church and the ministries we share together. We look forward to gathering with you and continuing the important work of our church community.

SUMMARY:Adult Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Adult Bible Study\nAre you looking for a meaningful way to engage with scripture and connect with others on the journey of faith? Our ongoing Bible Study at Perry Highway Lutheran Church is the perfect opportunity to do just that—no matter where you are on your spiritual path. \nAt PHLC\, we believe Bible Study isn’t about having all the answers or being a “Bible expert.” Instead\, it’s about creating a welcoming space where curiosity is encouraged and every voice matters. Together\, we open the scriptures with honesty and humility\, asking real questions\, sharing life experiences\, and exploring how these ancient words continue to speak into our modern lives. Faith\, after all\, grows best in conversation. \nEach gathering is a blend of thoughtful reflection and genuine connection. Some weeks we find ourselves laughing together; other weeks we wrestle with challenging passages or tough questions about life\, justice\, and hope. Always\, we seek to listen deeply—to scripture\, to one another\, and to the movement of God in our everyday lives. This is a place where doubts are not feared\, stories are honored\, and grace is practiced. \nWhether you’ve been attending church for many years\, are returning after time away\, or are simply curious about scripture and faith\, you are truly welcome here. You don’t need prior knowledge\, special preparation\, or the “right” answers. Just bring your authentic self and an open heart. \nOur Bible Study community is grounded in encouragement and support\, helping one another discern how to live out a grace-filled\, compassionate life in the real world—at work\, at home\, and in our wider community. \nBest of all\, you can join us virtually\, making it easy to participate wherever life finds you. If you’re seeking connection\, thoughtful conversation\, and a deeper engagement with scripture\, we would love for you to be part of this journey with us. \nTo join virtually\, email Pastor Ryan at pastor@phlc.org for the link.

SUMMARY:Pub Theology
DESCRIPTION:Pub Theology\nJoin us for PHLC’s “Pub Theology” gathering on June 5 for an evening of thoughtful conversation\, good company\, and meaningful reflection in a relaxed setting. Time and location are still to be determined\, but all are invited to come together for open discussion about faith\, life\, current events\, and the questions that shape our daily experiences. \nPub Theology creates space for honest dialogue outside the walls of the church\, welcoming people from all backgrounds and perspectives. Whether you have been part of the church community for years or are simply curious about spiritual conversations in an informal environment\, this gathering offers an opportunity to connect with others in a welcoming and respectful atmosphere. There is no pressure to have all the answers—just a willingness to listen\, share\, and engage with one another. \nDiscussions may touch on scripture\, culture\, relationships\, justice\, hope\, doubt\, and the ways faith intersects with everyday life. Some evenings are lighthearted\, others more reflective\, but every conversation is grounded in community and mutual respect. Pub Theology reminds us that meaningful spiritual conversations can happen anywhere people gather together. \nBring a friend\, grab a drink or snack\, and join us as we continue building connections through conversation and fellowship. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people\, deepen relationships\, and explore big questions in a casual and welcoming environment. \nAdditional details about the time and location will be shared soon. We hope you will make plans to join us for this engaging evening of conversation\, community\, and connection at PHLC’s Pub Theology on June 5.
