DESCRIPTION:Join us at 9:30 am on Sundays — We Make a Place for Everyone!\n\nThe Kingdom of Heaven Is Like . . .\nA string of parables describe the kingdom of heaven\, and then we hear Jesus’ question: “Have you understood all this?” The mustard seed\, yeast\, hidden treasure\, pearls—these bring good news of growth and joy and riches. Then come the fish\, the furnace of fire\, and the weeping and gnashing of teeth. Once again this week we hear of a God of mercy and justice. Once again there is good news to be heard in Paul’s letter to the church at Rome—nothing will ever separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus. How will we reconcile these two images of God? \n“Kingdoms” are not common in our world. When most of us think about kingdoms\, we call up images of British or other royalty—jeweled crowns\, a palace. At the time the Gospel of Matthew was written\, the people were subject to the empire\, or kingdom\, of Rome. Perhaps the writer wants us to contrast the oppressive rule of Rome with a vision of heaven’s kingdom of love and mercy. The translation of the Greek basileia\, a feminine word usually rendered in English as “kingdom\,” is difficult. The writer of Matthew may have used the expression “kingdom of heaven” instead of “kingdom of God” in order not to offend Jewish Christ-believers who honored the word for God by avoiding its use. \nKing Solomon asks God for the wisdom to discern between good and evil\, for the understanding to live out both justice and mercy as a ruler of God’s people. God was pleased with Solomon’s request. The wisdom Solomon seeks to rule his earthly kingdom reflects the wisdom of the kingdom of heaven. King Solomon was variously successful in his discernment of good and evil\, as are we. \n\n~From Sundays & Seasons

DESCRIPTION:North Hills Youth Group Pool Party\nMake a splash with the North Hills Joint Youth Group at our Summer Pool Party! All students entering or currently in 6th through 12th grade are invited to join us for an evening of swimming\, food\, games\, and fun on Sunday\, July 26\, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Pool. \nThis is a great opportunity to cool off\, reconnect with friends\, and meet other youth from congregations throughout the North Hills. Whether you’re a longtime participant or joining us for the first time\, everyone is welcome! Bring your swimsuit\, towel\, sunscreen\, and if you’d like\, your favorite pool floatie for even more fun in the water. \nRefreshments will be provided\, courtesy of St. John’s Perrysville\, so come hungry and ready for a relaxing summer evening filled with laughter and community. DESCRIPTION:Meditation Group\nThis group will meet on July 28 at 7:00 pm\, and all are welcome to join us—whether you are brand new to meditation or have some experience. This gathering is an invitation to slow down\, breathe\, and create space for reflection in the midst of busy and often demanding lives. \nMeditation has been practiced for millennia by Christians\, Buddhists\, and people of many other faith traditions. Across these traditions\, meditation is valued as a way to move beyond ideas about spirituality and instead encounter our lived experience more fully. Through quiet attention\, gentle guidance\, and shared practice\, meditation helps us notice what is happening within us—our thoughts\, emotions\, physical sensations\, and prayers—in the present moment. \nFor Christians\, meditation can be a way of deepening awareness of God’s presence\, listening more closely to the movement of the Spirit\, and resting in sacred silence. For others\, it may be experienced as a practice of mindfulness that cultivates compassion\, clarity\, and inner peace. No matter your background or beliefs\, this group offers a welcoming space to explore meditation as a tool for spiritual growth\, self-awareness\, and stress reduction. \nEach session will include simple instruction\, time for guided and silent meditation\, and an opportunity for reflection and discussion. SUMMARY:Prayer Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Prayer Vigil\nJoin members of PHLC as we stand with our wider community at a weekly prayer vigil in support of immigrants who have been seized and are being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This vigil takes place every Friday\, beginning at 8:30 AM\, at the ICE Field Office\, 3000 Sydney Street\, Pittsburgh. It is grounded in faith\, compassion\, and a shared commitment to justice. \nEach gathering includes hymns\, spoken prayers\, and intentional moments of silence. Together\, we create sacred space in the midst of public life—bearing witness to the dignity of our immigrant neighbors and naming the harm caused by unjust systems. This is a peaceful\, quiet protest\, meant to remind the public that the suffering of our neighbors is not abstract or distant\, but real and happening in our community. \nParticipants are welcome to carry signs that reflect messages of hope\, solidarity\, and justice. In keeping with the spirit of the vigil\, there will be no shouting\, chanting\, or bullhorns. Those attending will stand on the public sidewalk only and may not enter the roadway or the property of the ICE facility. These guidelines help ensure the safety of all involved and preserve the prayerful nature of the gathering. \nThis vigil is an act of faithful presence—showing up\, week after week\, to say that immigrants are beloved\, that families matter\, and that silence in the face of injustice is not an option. Whether you come every Friday or are able to join us once\, your presence matters. \nThe vigil is hosted by Sisters of St. Joseph\, Pax Christi\, and Casa San José. All are welcome to come\, pray\, and stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors.
