DESCRIPTION:Rally Day: Sunday School Begins!\nRally Day\, September 13\, marks the beginning of a new year of Sunday School at Perry Highway Lutheran Church\, and we are excited to welcome our children and families back for another year of learning\, fellowship\, and fun! \nDuring Sunday School time on Rally Day\, the children will enjoy a variety of games\, activities\, and special surprises. Ted has been planning some fun activities to help everyone get the year off to a great start. It will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to reconnect with their friends\, welcome new faces\, and begin another year of growing together in faith. \nWe have plenty of juice boxes ready for the children\, but we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to help provide snacks. If you are able to donate snacks for Rally Day or would like to help throughout the Sunday School year\, please let Ted know. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and help make Sunday School a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone. \nAs part of Rally Day\, we will also have a special Bible presentation during the worship service. Children who would like to receive a Bible will be presented with one during the service. If your child would like to receive a Bible\, please let Ted know ahead of time so we can make sure we have one ready for them on Rally Day. \nWe look forward to celebrating the start of another wonderful Sunday School year with our children and families. DESCRIPTION:Join us at 9:30 am on Sundays — We Make a Place for Everyone!\n\nNew Perspective\nBeing a disciple requires an expansive perspective on forgiveness. Today our perspective is broadened by the good news that God’s forgiveness is not based on our idea of fairness\, but rather on abundant\, unimaginable grace. God “[has] not dealt with us according to our sins\, nor repaid us according to our iniquities” (Ps. 103:10). The king forgives our entire debt\, no matter how enormous it is (Matt. 18:23-27). We also are challenged to stretch our perspective and forgive each other. With Peter\, we learn to stop keeping score (Matt. 18:21-22). \nIt’s not an easy thing to do. Again and again we fall back on limited human understandings of what is “fair.” Looking at the story of Joseph and his brothers\, it’s easy for us to say that his brothers really didn’t deserve forgiveness. Even their plea for forgiveness is dishonest and manipulative—have they really repented (Gen. 50:15-17)? Joseph takes the wider view and realizes that it isn’t his brothers’ intentions that matter\, but God’s. God’s forgiveness is much greater than what is fair\, what we deserve. \nSo what does this new\, broadened perspective look like in the lives of Christians and congregations? Paul provides a pragmatic glimpse: “Those who eat must not despise those who abstain\, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat\, for God has welcomed them” (Rom. 14:3). If all are truly welcomed by God\, we are called to share the good news of that welcome in all we say and do. \n\n~From Sundays & Seasons

We will meet over lunch on Sunday\, September 13th\, to watch A Serious Man (2009)\, a darkly humorous film from acclaimed filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen. \nThe film follows Larry Gopnik\, a physics professor whose life begins to unravel as he faces a series of unexpected personal\, professional\, and family challenges. As Larry searches for answers and tries to make sense of everything happening around him\, the film explores questions of faith\, uncertainty\, family\, morality\, and the sometimes absurd nature of life. There will be plenty to think about—and plenty to talk about! \nAfter watching the film\, we will gather again on Sunday\, October 4th\, which is also the day of our blood drive\, to discuss A Serious Man together. This gives everyone some time to reflect on the movie before we come together to share thoughts\, observations\, questions\, and different perspectives. \nFilm Club is a great opportunity to enjoy a good movie while also getting to know one another through thoughtful conversation and fellowship.
