North Hills Refugee Ministry Update
NHRM’s work with the family we began sponsoring last June is winding down. The family is becoming more and more self sufficient; they are paying their rent, they have purchased a family car, and they are covering most of their financial needs. NHRM continues to assist them with medical and dental concerns and to help with costs not covered by their insurance. As much as healthcare costs remain an issue in this country, it is clear that we are blessed to have such proficient care available to us.
The youngest son and daughter will soon be finishing their first year at school. Their English is getting better everyday. The son has been accepted into the vocation training and will be studying auto mechanics next year. He is a very handy and mechanically inclined young man who is looking for summer odd jobs. If you are looking for a good laborer, please give Jane Hein a call.
NHRM would be looking to sponsor another family but the current administration has halted new refugees from entering the USA. NHRM is working with the local resettlement agency, JFCS, to assist refugees who are already in the area that need some extra help acclimating to their new home. NHRM is pleased to have been renewed for the Ethel L. Verney Grant through the Southwestern PA Synod for a second year.
NHRM is always looking for volunteers to meet with and help refugees in our area. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jane Hein or Melinda Geiger.
