About Social Outreach
At PHLC, we are dedicated to showing Christian compassion and helping the ill, aged, orphaned, poor, hungry and homeless.
The Social Outreach Ministry team leads our congregation in these endeavors to address the social, economic, and emotional needs of people both within the congregation, our community and our world at large. The team’s goal is to transform us into a more caring and prayerful church. We achieve this goal by focussing on:
Each year, our congregation adopts a local, national or international agency and concentrates efforts to support the specific needs of this agency. Our hope is that by getting to know an agency over the course of the year, members of our congregation will continue to support this agency in the future. We are continuously supporting local agencies such as North Hills Community Outreach, Glade Run Children’s Home, Passavant Retirement Community, St. John Lutheran Care Center, local food Banks, community Mission Projects, Allegheny General Hospital and more. (3) Peace and Social Justice Advocacy Ministry
Our church participates in the ELCA’s non-partisan efforts to influence state and federal governments to adopt laws that advance the social goals of the church in accordance with the church constitution. The Social Justice Advocacy display in the narthex is continually updated with information from the ELCA Offices in Washington and Harrisburg.
