Lent, Holy Week, and Easter ~ Just for Kids!

A change from our tradition, on Sunday, April 23, 2017, we will celebrate with our young people who
will be receiving their First Holy Communion. Classes of preparation for this important event in their
faith journey will be held on two consecutive Sundays beginning on March 26, 2017 during the
Sunday School hour. The age a child begins to commune is at the discretion of his/her parents. Any
questions may be directed to Pastor Ferguson. If you would like to enroll your child in this class,
please contact the church office at 724-935-1226 or email secretary@phlc.org
Palm Sunday Breakfast & Easter Egg Hunt
April 9, 2017

On Palm Sunday, April 9, we ask the congregation to join us for a breakfast buffet between services at 9:45 a.m. – there will be no Sunday School.  Everyone is asked to bring a breakfast dish.  We will have a sign up sheet in the Narthex beginning March 26 so that there will be a variety of items.  Following breakfast we will host our traditional Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30.  We ask that you provide a dozen filled eggs for each child that you will have participating in the egg hunt.  You can bring the eggs to the Supply Room across from the restrooms by Saturday April 8. Please have your child bring either an Easter basket or a bag to put their collected eggs in!

Lenten Outreach Mission: For the 11th year, we will assemble Easter baskets for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as a Lenten outreach mission.  Perry Highway Lutheran will be donating these baskets on behalf of our congregation as well as the Mother’s Hope Foundation – a local organization that strives to ease the suffering of children afflicted with cancer.  The baskets will be given to children of all ages – toddlers to teens.   We would appreciate any of the following suggested items, including but not limited to: craft items, puzzles, books, card games, small games, make-up, toiletries, SCRIPS gift cards, fun socks, jewelry, DVDs, CDs, stuffed animals (tags must be on them to indicate “NEW” status), handheld or travel games, small Lego or other building sets, sports memorabilia (i.e. game jerseys, hats, tees, etc.).  We are NOT collecting food or candy items due to dietary restrictions.   Any monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to buy any needed items.  Any questions or suggestions regarding the baskets, please contact Cyndi Chiodo, Mother’s Hope Co-Chair.  We will be putting the baskets together on Palm Sunday, April 9, during Children’s Church.  Please bring your donations in during the next few weeks.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Good Friday Children’s Program
April 14, 2017 – 11:00am

We invite you, your children, friends and neighbors to join us on Good Friday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m. for a special Children’s Program.  During this time, we will share the steps that Jesus took on his way to the cross and that the message of sadness was not the end of the story.  Following the program, the children will enjoy a craft and finish around 12:00 noon.  We welcome children of all ages and look forward to sharing this important time with them. Please RSVP with your children’s names and ages.  Last minute attendees who have not RSVP’d however, are most certainly welcome!

Easter Sunday for Kids
April 16, 2017 – 11:00am Service
On Easter Sunday, there is no Sunday School or Children’s Church during the 11:00am Liturgy. We
encourage children to worship with their families for this special worship celebration.

One of the greatest ways we can share our faith is to invite our loved ones and un-churched neighbors to worship. Pray for God’s guidance and invite a friend to worship this season of Lent & Easter.

Please save the date for VBS – July 17 to July 21, 2017!
