Perry Highway Evangelical Lutheran Church’s priorities are clear: to provide quality programs for youth and families in the community we serve. This includes the youngest members in our society—infants and toddlers—through our college-aged youth. At PHLC, we encourage our children and youth to praise, honor and serve God, to play an active role in the congregation and in the community, and to be followers of Christ.
PHLC offers programs for all age groups – toddler, preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school. PHLC strives to actively involve youth of all ages throughout the year and as we celebrate the festivals of church, such as Lent, Easter and Christmas. While some activities are strictly social, others involve service to others. All the programs available for our children and youth are to help our youth know and experience God’s everlasting love.
There are two groups in our congregation that work together to guide our children and youth: Christian Education and Youth Ministry.
The Christian Education team provides a program where children and youth learn the Holy Scriptures and Lutheran teachings so that they may apply them to everyday life. Our Ministry extends to youth of all ages. Along with the Youth Ministry Committee, we reach out to our older youth with the primary goal of guiding each one along Christ’s path.
The Youth Ministry Team works with youth who are in 6th through 12th grades, providing activities for their Christian growth in three areas: community service, spiritual development, and Christian fellowship. We believe that faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships. We also believe that as Christians we are called to live out our faith in our daily lives by loving and serving our neighbor. With that in mind, we have three primary goals for youth ministry.
- Build relationships with youth and leaders.
- Build an attitude of service and sacrifice for the sake of others.
- Build a foundation of biblical knowledge that will guide youth in living out their faith.
